Key works of the 20th century

Part of the project Kapelle 21 – the new chamber music label of the Staatskapelle for 20th century and contemporary works  – the 3rd Evening Orchestral Recital is dedicated to two core works by Arnold Schoenberg. In »Verklärten Nacht«, based on the poem of the same name by Richard Dehmel, the Viennese composer employs late-Romantic harmonies to re-imagine this nocturnal forest scene in which a man reassures his lover that he will accept someone else’s child as his own. Schoenberg’s »Pierrot lunaire« is regarded as a 20th century masterpiece, not least for the pioneering use of the speaking voice. Orchestra member Petr Popelka will conduct the Staatskapelle while the role of Pierrot is performed by Sarah Maria Sun.
